Executive Order No. 7298, effective February 18, 1936, issued under authority of the Federal Register Act of July 26, 1935 (49 Stat 500), gave to the Division of the Federal Register of the National Archives (now the Office of the Federal Register) the duties of numbering the Executive orders and proclamations and of supervising their promulgation, publication, and distribution.
