EXECUTIVE ORDER No. 1880
[To Prevent the Corrupt Influencing of Agents, Employees or Servants in the Canal Zone.]
THE WHITE HOUSE, January 21, 1914.
By virtue of the authority vested in me I hereby establish the fol- lowing Executive order for the Canal Zone:
Section 1. It shall be unlawful for any person to give, offer or promise to an agent, employee or servant, any gift or gratuity what- ever without the knowledge and consent of the principal, employer or master of such agent, employee or servant with intent to influence his action in relation to the business of his principal, employer, or master; or for any agent, employee or servant, without the knowledge and consent of his principal, employer or master, to request or accept a gift, or gratuity, or the promise of any gift or gratuity whatever beneficial to himself, under an agreement or with an understanding that he shall act in any particular manner in respect to the business of his principal, employer, or master; or for any agent, employee or servant authorized to procure materials, supplies or other articles either by purchase or contract for his principal, employer or master, or to employ servants or labor for his principal, employer or master, to request or accept or agree to accept, for himself or another, di- rectly or indirectly, a commission, discount or bonus from the person who makes the sale or contract, or furnishes such materials, supplies or articles or from the person who renders such service or labor; or for any person to give or offer to such agent, employee, or servant such commission, discount or bonus.
A violation of any of the provisions of this order shall be punished by a fine of not less than ten dollars nor more than five hundred dollars, or by imprisonment in jail for not more than one year, or both such fine and imprisonment in the discretion of the Court.
Sec. 2. This order shall take effect thirty days from and after its publication in the Canal Record.
